Newcastle United won’t want a repeat of last season as they could have suffered relegation back to the Championship. But, with plenty of aspiring youngsters coming up through the ranks, the future looks bright for the Magpies.

Rafa Benitez has always been open to giving youth a chance if he believes that they can fulfill their potential, which is why a number of youngsters have enjoyed minutes so far during pre-season.

The Magpies did struggle for options at times last season, so it would be nice for the Spaniard to be able to call upon certain players in the youth ranks to make the step up.

And, with Mike Ashley in charge of the club it’s always important to ensure that the youth system is thriving, as funds may be difficult to get hold of.

Without further ado, here’s TWO amazing Newcastle youngsters that you’ll know all about by the end of the season…

Victor Fernandez arrived on Tyneside last January and has made a big impact in his first year.

The 20-year-old operates as a winger and made 18 appearances last season for the reserves, scoring once. He has featured in first team trips to Spain, Ireland and in this summer’s games, so he’s very much a part of the future of the club and could work his way into Benitez’s plans for the season coming up.

With a lack of new signings, perhaps he can be afforded a real chance.

Sean Longstaff is a hard-working midfielder that has worked his way up through the ranks at the club, with a first-team debut being just reward for all of his efforts.

The youngster scored nine goals last season during his time out on loan at Blackpool, so it’s clear to see that there’s potential that just needs unlocking.

Indeed, with Jonjo Shelvey struggling to find the perfect midfield partner over the course of the last campaign, perhaps Longstaff will step up to the plate for Newcastle United.
