The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are very concerned about the future of Toby Alderweireld at Spurs. He’s yet to sign a new deal at the club, and the 2017/18 season has been far from ideal for the Belgian.

Fitness problems have been very problematic for both him and Tottenham, whilst the fine form of some of Mauricio Pochettino’s other defenders has meant that the Belgian is no longer the first team mainstay that he once was.

That being said, he remains a top player, and so the prospect of losing him is a very worrying thought for most of the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern. As a result, a recent report from the Telegraph will no doubt spread fear amongst Tottenham circles.

According to the Telegraph, the Lilywhites could be forced to sell him this summer as they are still yet to agree fresh terms.

It would certainly be a huge loss for Tottenham, and it won’t be easy to replace him. That being said, there are options for Mauricio Pochettino if he does decide to cash-in, and our landlord has identified a few potential examples.

He fits right into the Tottenham mould, given that he’s an impressive, homegrown player for a mid-level club.

The Englishman has bags of potential, and his leadership could prove to be instrumental in the dressing room.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, he could turn into one of the Premier League’s best.

 Salif Sane

Salif Sane has been one of Europe’s most consistent defenders this season.

A real force at the back, the Hannover 96 defender possesses incredible power, pace and aerial ability – making him a perfect option for the Premier League.

He’d be an option if Tottenham want to bring in a player that can do a job immediately.

Whilst not the cheapest option, he’d arguably be an upgrade on Alderweireld based on current form.
