Change it up: Pochettino should give these 2 talented Tottenham players a chance vs Barnsley

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t expecting much this season…

The temporary move to Wembley, and the poor record that comes along with it, has left optimism at an all-time low amongst Tottenham circles, though they have shown signs of improvement lately.

Harry Kane is back firing, whilst new signings Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier are both looking very good indeed.

Still, silverware in the Premier League and Champions League do not look to be a likely proposition this season, but the same cannot be said for the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham often impress in domestic cup competitions, and this year should be no different. Fortunately, their first opponents are Barnsley, and they should be able to win quite comfortably.

In fact, the game could represent a chance for Pochettino to rest a couple of key squad members, and that could mean a few fringe players could get a chance to impress.

With that said, Pochettino needs to give these 2 talented players a chance vs Barnsley…

 Fernando Llorente

It’s always going to be hard to displace Harry Kane, but the cup should offer Fernando Llorente a chance to impress.

He has found opportunities limited since moving to the club, but he proved for Swansea City that he’s good enough to lead the line for a top team.

Tottenham’s play style will need to change somewhat, with more of a focus on long balls and his aerial threat, but he’ll be difficult for Barnsley to deal with.

 Harry Winks

Harry Winks had a breakthrough campaign last term, and he’s already enjoyed a couple of substitute roles this season too.

He’s a very solid option for Pochettino, and this season will be vital as an option for extra depth, particularly considering how many competitions the Lilywhites will be involved in.

Great on the ball and impressive in the tackle, he’s a player that Pochettino can rely upon.

He has a bright future ahead of him, and game time will help speed up his development.
