Tottenham are facing a crucial period in the season. They’re still dealing with a few injury problems, with Harry Kane’s absence something of particular concern to Mauricio Pochettino.
The Englishman, who has scored 14 league goals so far this season, has been missing since the Man Utd game, and it’s fair to say that Tottenham have really missed him. They just aren’t as lethal without him, and their lack of depth in the role has seen their potency reduce significantly.
However, Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas is still backing the Lilywhites to beat Newcastle on Saturday – and he’s backing one player to take over the goalscoring demands that are present in the absence of Harry Kane.
As per Sky Sports, he said: ‘With Son coming back and Llorente scoring, that was a massive lift for Spurs and they now have a seven-point gap to fourth place. That is significant with the injuries they have had and I fancy Spurs in this one.
He added: ‘Newcastle will sit in with a counterattacking mentality, but Spurs will break them down and I would be surprised if Son does not score again’.
Of course, Son Heung-min had been missing for a few weeks whilst South Korea were at the Asian Cup, but he’s now back and available, and he’s already shown what he can do.
He was the difference for Spurs against Watford on Wednesday, and his goalscoring acumen is evident. Indeed, he’s got 9 goals already this season, and that’s from just 13 league starts.
Is he as effective as Harry Kane? Obviously not, but he’s still got an eye for a goal, and he’s proven time and time again that he can be a hero for the Lilywhites.
