The Daily Star have an utterly sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as they note that Chelsea could well be plotting a move for Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna.

The defender is odds on to leave the Gunners in the summer, and one of our punters reminds us that it was only last week that we were noting that despite his best efforts, Arsene Wenger thinks he will lose the right-back this summer.

Now it seems that Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are looking set to continue their habit of swooping for full backs from the club – they of course netted Ashley Cole during Mourinho’s first spell in charge at the club, and now want Sagna.

One of our punters manages to put down his pint and look up to express his opinion on this – and it is not a favourable one.

Gunners fans are still smarting from their defeat earlier in the weekend and they do not want to see one of their direct rivals steal another top player!

Chelsea are not the only club who are keen on the defender – Manchester City want him too, and as we know they are serial stealers of Arsenal players. All we need now is for Barcelona to join the mix!
