For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, the defeat at Tottenham last night is finally beginning to settle in…
Very rarely have the Blues been on the receiving end of a loss in the Premier League this season, but after 13 successive wins – it was their London rivals that ended their streak.
The immediate reaction in the Transfer Tavern was one of surprise, but now, nearly 24 hours after the fact – the Chelsea fans are feeling surprisingly optimistic.
One loss, they feel, is nothing to be concerned about – and they think that if anything, the defeat could spur Antonio Conte on to make a few new signings this month.
One player that the Blues are, reportedly, keen on is a move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko – with the Daily Mail reporting that Chelsea are ready to test his club with a bid, whilst Man Utd also remain keen.
Bakayoko has been vital in Ligue 1 for Monaco this season, with the French outfit battling for the title, and it would appear as though Conte sees him as a good fit at Stamford Bridge.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Bakayoko has largely played as a central midfielder this season – offering dynamic tackling, ball retention and forward play in a team that is performing above expectations.
Mourinho is also reportedly keen on the midfielder, and with Morgan Schneiderlin set for a Man Utd exit this month – a move for a player like Bakayoko would certainly make sense.
Our landlord thinks that the French midfielder’s future could turn into quite the saga over the next few weeks.
