Chelsea have failed with a large number of strikers in their Premier League history. In recent years the likes of Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi have all failed to impress. However, The Sun reports that Chelsea target Mauro Icardi could be on his way out of the San Siro, and the Blues would love to swoop for the Argentine.

The 25-year-old Icardi is a superb striker and has everything that a top frontman needs to succeed in Europe. However, last week the Argentine was stripped of the captaincy at Inter Milan and has threatened to quit unless the club makes a public apology for their actions. After having the armband taken off of him Icardi withdrew from the squad facing Rapid Wein before failing to make the squad for yesterday’s Serie A clash with Sampdoria.
Inter Milan may have come out on top of both of those games despite Icardi’s absence, yet he is undoubtedly a massive loss to the club and the Inter fans will be desperate for the issues to be resolved sharpish and for him to be reinstated in the side. However, Chelsea fans will be watching on from afar with delight as they could be set to snag a deal for their man in the summer, which could prevent them from signing Gonzalo Higuain permanently.
