Chelsea came close to completing a dramatic deadline-day move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the summer transfer window, only for the deal to fall apart at the final hurdle.
The Blues had been working on a late move for the 22-year-old after agreeing to sell Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City.
However, Monaco ultimately pulled the plug on Camara’s departure as the deadline approached, leaving Chelsea frustrated by the way the negotiations unfolded.
Despite the disappointment, Chelsea have not abandoned their interest in the midfielder and could revisit the situation when the January transfer window opens.

Chelsea would reportedly need to pay around £60 million if they want to sign Lamine Camara in January, according to TEAMTalk.
The Monaco midfielder was at the heart of one of the summer window’s most dramatic late transfer sagas. Chelsea had already seen an initial bid rejected before Monaco agreed to a second offer worth approximately £47m, only to subsequently reverse their decision and keep Camara.
The situation left Chelsea unhappy with Monaco’s handling of the negotiations, particularly with the transfer deadline fast approaching.
Camara has since spoken about the “turbulent” period, but the failed move has not ended Chelsea’s interest.
According to transfer expert Jacobs, Monaco now value the midfielder at €70m (£60m), while the French club are keen to retain his services. Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring the Senegal international, meaning Chelsea could face competition if they return with a fresh bid.
Camara’s performances have only strengthened Monaco’s position. He has scored once and provided an assist across his first six appearances of the 2026-27 campaign, starting every game and completing the full 90 minutes in each.
The midfielder also created the goal for Paris Brunner during Monaco’s 1-1 draw with Strasbourg, helping his side remain top of Ligue 1 with 10 points from their opening four matches.
With his stock continuing to rise, Chelsea could now have to pay significantly more than the £47m they had agreed to spend during the summer if they want to finally bring Camara to Stamford Bridge.
