Chelsea remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish despite a couple of frustrating recent results.
Draws against Leeds and Burnley have left Liam Rosenior’s side sitting fifth with 11 matches remaining. While Champions League qualification is still within reach, it is no longer entirely in their control, with an in-form Manchester United currently viewed as favourites to secure a spot.
Looking ahead to next season, Chelsea are already planning potential reinforcements — and one Bundesliga midfielder has emerged as a serious target.
Chelsea Learn Nmecha Price
Borussia Dortmund are prepared to sell Felix Nmecha this summer, but only for a significant fee.
The 25-year-old has established himself as a vital figure in Dortmund’s midfield since joining from Wolfsburg in 2023. The Germany international has featured in all 35 of the club’s matches this season, contributing five goals along the way.
Born in Hamburg, Nmecha developed through Manchester City’s academy after joining as a youngster. He made three senior appearances for City — in the League Cup, Champions League and FA Cup — before departing in 2021. After two years at Wolfsburg, he earned his move to Dortmund, where his performances have elevated his reputation.
According to German outlet Bild, both Chelsea and Manchester United are weighing up summer approaches for the midfielder.
However, Dortmund have reportedly placed a €70m (£61m) valuation on him — more than double the fee they paid three years ago. With his contract running until 2028, this transfer window may represent Dortmund’s best opportunity to demand a premium price.
Nmecha’s impact has not gone unnoticed within the squad. Team-mate Julian Brandt praised his influence, saying: “He brings balance to our team. He’s been consistently very good and stable now. He’s an incredibly dynamic player with a good shot and strong physicality. You get the feeling he’s like a sick person. He always gets to all the balls, chases them away and is extremely important for us.”
Chelsea’s interest in Nmecha underlines their intent to strengthen in midfield, but Dortmund’s hefty asking price could prove a major obstacle. With competition from Manchester United and the German club in a strong contractual position, prising the “incredibly dynamic” midfielder away this summer will require a significant investment.
