Chelsea continue to invest in promising young talent as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours in the coming years.
The Blues have already established a reputation for recruiting emerging stars, with their multi-club ownership model giving them additional opportunities to develop players before introducing them to the Premier League.
That strategy could now deliver another reward, with Chelsea reportedly closing in on a deal for a highly-rated winger currently playing in France.
The 20-year-old has impressed since arriving at Strasbourg, and a move to Stamford Bridge could be the next step in his rapid rise.
Chelsea have Practically Signed Gessime Yassine
According to reports from France, Chelsea have practically secured the signing of Strasbourg winger Gessime Yassine, with former Blues goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon suggesting that the transfer is close to being completed.
Speaking to Ouest-France, Lollichon discussed the ability of former club Dunkerque to identify and develop emerging talents before highlighting Yassine’s situation.
The Moroccan winger joined Strasbourg from Dunkerque in January in a deal worth around €7 million. He has since continued his development in Ligue 1, registering two goals and three assists in 25 appearances for the Alsatian club.
Yassine’s progress has attracted considerable attention, with his performances demonstrating the potential that convinced Strasbourg to invest in him earlier this year. He particularly impressed in August, producing a Man of the Match display against Lens.
The 20-year-old operates primarily on the right wing, where his dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders have helped establish him as one to watch. His technical quality and potential for further development make him an appealing prospect for Chelsea, who have consistently targeted young players with significant room to improve.
A possible move would also underline the advantages of Chelsea’s relationship with Strasbourg. Both clubs are owned by BlueCo, allowing the group to recruit promising players and provide them with opportunities to develop within its wider football network.
Yassine would follow several players who have already made the switch between the two clubs. Valentin Barco and Mamadou Sarr have previously moved from Strasbourg to Chelsea, while Emmanuel Emegha is another example of the connection between the sides.
For Chelsea, the reported agreement would represent another investment in their long-term recruitment strategy rather than necessarily an immediate first-team solution. Yassine could continue his development in France before potentially earning an opportunity in the Premier League.
Although Lollichon’s comments suggest that the deal is close, Chelsea have yet to make an official announcement confirming the transfer. The precise timing of any move and the arrangements surrounding his arrival also remain unclear.
Nevertheless, the latest development indicates that Chelsea are making progress in their pursuit of the young winger. If the move is completed, Yassine will become the latest promising talent to benefit from BlueCo’s recruitment strategy, with the Blues hoping his development eventually translates into success at Stamford Bridge.
