Chelsea have already enjoyed a huge summer under Xabi Alonso, with the Blues spending heavily to reshape their squad.
The club-record arrival of Morgan Rogers has headlined the window, while Valentin Barco and several other additions have further strengthened Alonso’s options.
There have also been notable departures, with Marc Cucurella leaving for Real Madrid and Andrey Santos moving to Manchester United.
Despite already spending more than £270 million on 10 players, Chelsea could now have the opportunity to add another exciting young England international to their ranks.
Chelsea Offered Chance to Sign Lewis-Skelly
According to Football London, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly, with Arsenal potentially willing to consider the midfielder’s departure following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.
The 19-year-old, who has been described as “amazing” by former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson, came through the Gunners’ academy and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season.
Lewis-Skelly featured 36 times in all competitions, although only 19 of those appearances came as a starter. His versatility has made him particularly valuable, with the England international capable of operating in central midfield as well as at left-back.
His situation could now be worth monitoring after Arsenal’s £75m move for Guimaraes. According to club sources, Chelsea have been offered the opportunity to sign Lewis-Skelly, with the midfielder already known to be on the Blues’ radar.
Chelsea could therefore consider a move, although it remains unclear whether they would be prepared to meet Arsenal’s demands.
Lewis-Skelly has started Arsenal’s pre-season matches in defensive midfield while Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Guimaraes have been unavailable. Those performances have been mixed, although he impressed significantly when deployed as a left-sided midfielder towards the end of last season.
For Chelsea, there is also the question of where he would fit. The youngster can play centrally or provide cover at left-back, although Alonso already has Jorrel Hato and Pep Chavarria as options in that position following Cucurella’s departure.
With Chelsea’s focus increasingly shifting towards player sales, a deal may be difficult. But given Lewis-Skelly’s age, versatility and Premier League experience, this is an opportunity the Blues may not immediately dismiss.
