“Incredible” Chelsea star reaches personal terms with new club ahead of Stamford Bridge exit

Chelsea have had yet another frantic summer, with the club continuing its spending spree in what seems like a never-ending quest to rejuvenate their squad.

Big names have flooded through the door, including Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and highly touted youngsters like Estevao Willian and Jorrel Hato.

Add to that the near-completion of deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, and it’s clear Chelsea mean business.

But, as with any squad overhaul, there must be some culling. With so many new faces arriving, the Blues have begun offloading some of their existing talent to balance the books and avoid an oversized roster.

Joao Felix, once a promising addition, has already moved on, and others — such as Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Djordje Petrovic — have followed suit. Now, it seems another name could soon be on the chopping block.

In a surprising turn of events, Renato Veiga looks set to depart Stamford Bridge just a year after arriving. According to trusted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal have agreed on personal terms with the Portuguese defender.

Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations with the Spanish club to finalise the deal, with Villarreal offering £21 million plus potential add-ons. However, Chelsea are said to be holding out for a package closer to £26 million.

If Veiga does leave, it will mark an abrupt end to his brief spell in West London.

Described as “incredible” by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez, Veiga joined Chelsea only last summer, and after a limited run in the first team, was loaned to Juventus for the second half of the 2024/25 season.

It would be another case of a player arriving, doing relatively little, and then moving on — yet, for Chelsea, the potential sale represents solid business. Having only cost the Blues £12 million, the potential £26 million sale would provide a healthy return, sparking criticism of Todd Boehly’s transfer strategy to quiet down for just a moment.
