Both the Everton and Chelsea fans in the Tavern are behind this deal…
Joe Hart has had a bit of a rough year. After being the undisputed number 1 at Man City in a period of sustained dominance by the Sky Blues – he was unceremoniously dumped by Pep Guardiola, who chose to sign Claudio Bravo in his place.
This, of course, came off the back of a poor performance at Euro 2016, and a series of disappointing displays last season.
However, things appear to be on the up – with Hart currently undergoing a career resurgence with Torino in Serie A – and he appears to be in-demand back in his native country.
According to the Sun, both Everton and Chelsea are keen to land a deal for Hart, who has boasted an impressive record since making the temporary move to Italy.
Whilst the news does come as a bit of a shock – in many ways, it does make sense. On the surface, Hart is a trophy-laden goalkeeper with years of experience, and he would be an asset to any top side.
Everton, in particular, could benefit – given that current number 1 Maarten Stekelenburg looks unlikely to stay for more than a year or 2, given his age.
Our landlord has also made a point about homegrown status. Joe Hart would, of course, qualify as a homegrown player – and Chelsea could really do with a few of those.
What’s more, with Courtois continuing to disappoint for the Blues – a top class second-choice could force him back into form.
Either way, with Hart’s Man City future looking over – a Premier League switch looks inevitable for the Englishman – and it would appear that Chelsea and Everton are the frontrunners.
