Chelsea have already had an extremely busy summer transfer window — especially when it comes to reinforcing their forward line.

First came the £30 million signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, with the young striker already making waves at the Club World Cup. Then, in a surprise move, the Blues announced the £60 million arrival of Brazil international João Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion.

João Pedro’s signing — snatched from under the nose of Newcastle United — has all but signaled the end of Nicolas Jackson’s frustrating two-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea’s transfer activity isn’t slowing down. Not only are they closing in on Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, they’ve now set their sights on one of the breakout stars of the Club World Cup — and launched a surprise bid to land him.

According to a new report from Fichajes in Spain, via the Standard, Chelsea have submitted a shock £34 million offer for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia — the 21-year-old who’s taken the Club World Cup by storm.

Garcia has scored three goals in the tournament so far, including the match-winning strike against Juventus in the last 16 earlier this week.

His standout performances have drawn major praise — including from Madrid legend Fernando Morientes, who believes the club should loan out Brazilian wonderkid Endrick to make room for Garcia’s development.

“I loved Gonzalo; it’s great news for Real Madrid,” Morientes said. I’ve always believed that youth players need to give everything to earn their place in the first team, and Gonzalo has done just that.”

“I think keeping Gonzalo makes perfect sense. Gonzalo will get his minutes and have his impact, but in this Club World Cup, he’s clearly been the standout news,” he explained. “I would like Endrick to go on loan so he can play more minutes elsewhere, and for Gonzalo to take on the role that Endrick was expected to have.”

High praise indeed — and now, Chelsea are hoping to capitalise on Garcia’s breakout moment before Real Madrid commit to keeping him around.
