“At the moment…”: Top reporter gives update on Chelsea’s January transfer plans

Chelsea’s momentum continues to build under Enzo Maresca.

A convincing 3-0 victory over Wolves at the weekend — coming just weeks after knocking them out of the EFL Cup with a 4-3 win — has propelled the Blues up to third in the Premier League.

Malo Gusto netted his first goal for the club, while João Pedro and Pedro Neto added their names to the scoresheet in what was one of Chelsea’s most complete performances of the season so far.

With a quarter of the campaign gone, Chelsea are firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish. Yet, as history shows, the club rarely stand still when transfer opportunities arise — especially with the January window fast approaching.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on what fans can expect.

Chelsea “Happy” with Current Squad, Says Romano

Speaking via GiveMeSport on YouTube, Romano revealed that things are currently quiet behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.

“At the moment it is very quiet,” said Romano. “Chelsea are happy with their squad and are not seeking any player and have not started any conversations with any new centre-back for the January window.”

He added: “Chelsea are always monitoring the market, we know that. They are always attentive to opportunities. They also felt last summer in August that there was probably no player available on the market for Chelsea who could make an impact.”

Romano’s comments suggest that Chelsea’s hierarchy are content with their current options — at least for now.

Even so, from an outside perspective, a defensive addition might make sense. With Levi Colwill sidelined, Jorrell Hato still finding his rhythm in English football, and few senior backups available, Maresca could soon be forced to rethink his stance before the window closes.
