Chelsea have reportedly sent scouts to monitor the performances of a player making waves on the continent.
The Blues’ transfer scattergun did not click into gear over the winter, which could be a prelude to another heavy spending spree in the off-season.
By then, Liam Rosenior will have guided his new side to the end of a campaign whereby Champions League qualification and promising cup performances will determine their 2025/26 success.
With no concrete approaches over January, it has been difficult to work out what kind of profiles Rosenior could look to add to his squad.
But Chelsea continue to be in the mix for popular players around Europe, and were recently one of a handful of teams to start following a young talent in Denmark.
Chelsea send scouts to follow FC Nordsjaelland starlet Caleb Yirenkyi

According to TEAMtalk, Nordsjaelland centre-midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has caught the eye of multiple Premier League clubs, including Chelsea’s London rivals, Arsenal.
Chelsea have been named as one of the clubs to send enquiries about the Ghana international, while scouts were in attendance over the weekend to see the 20-year-old deliver a match-winning performance against Sonderjyske.
This is a significant step further than many of the other interested clubs, with 10 Premier League sides, as well as teams in France and Germany, following Yirenkyi’s development.
The Blues would likely need to send Nordsjaelland a club-record fee of over £22m to get the Danish outfit talking, but how realistic would a transfer be?
The truth is, without Rosenior having a past history, it’s difficult to determine how he would utilise the spending power at his disposal at Chelsea.
While he will be familiar with working under BlueCo, having been Strasbourg boss since July 2024, Rosenior will be able to pick off the very best talent at Chelsea if he so pleases.
However, there are still similarities. In his only full campaign at Strasbourg, all bar two of his 15 arrivals were under the age of 23. Incidentally, both players over 23 were goalkeepers – including ex-Chelsea shot-stopper Djordje Petrovic.
This points towards a clear approach from BlueCo across the clubs in their portfolio – the only player over 23 to sign for Chelsea this term was Joao Pedro (by 279 days).
You can therefore argue that Yirenkyi fits the bill from an age point of view, if indeed BlueCo wish to stick to this aspect of their transfer policy.
However, some sources say that a lack of control over that policy was a factor in Enzo Maresca’s departure – and BlueCo will surely not want to be searching for another manager in the near future (at least, not for those reasons).
So it would appear things remain up in the air as far as the likelihood of signing Yirenkyi is concerned. And with Chelsea able to pay for whoever they like, you can bet scouts will be watching dozens of players aside from the Ghanaian.
Given we are barely into February, Blues fans may be best advised to hold their nerve before getting too excited.
