The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are always on the hunt for who their side could look to sign next. Over the last few years, some big names have moved to Old Trafford, including the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.
Now, though, Jose Mourinho reportedly is eyeing up another one of Europe’s best young players.
Umiti has enjoyed a fantastic season at Barcelona, having emerged as one of their most important players. Providing solid and often unstoppable quality in the heart of the defence, the Frenchman – despite being just 24-years-old – has turned into a real defensive star.
Significantly, he apparently would prefer to stay at the Nou Camp, but the Spanish side’s hesitancy to offer him what he wants could prevent that from happening.
Mourinho, for his part, is said to be keen to upgrade his squad in an effort to continue his side’s rise up the table, and it appears as though Man Utd are ready to comply with those demands.
Landlord’s Verdict
Realistically, a move for Umtiti is not looking particularly likely. The Frenchman seemingly wants to stay, and it seems unlikely that Barcelona will let him go for any price. He’s rated at a whopping £36 million by Transfer Markt, but you’d imagine that Barcelona would demand far beyond that if they were to even consider moving him on.
He’s certainly a top-drawer player, though, and Man Utd’s defence has been shaky this season.
If available, he’d without a doubt be an upgrade, and so Man Utd’s interest is no real surprise.
