Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in a deeply worrying position as the season enters its final stretch. Sitting 16th in the Premier League with just eight games remaining, Spurs are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Although there have been small positives — including a draw with Liverpool and a morale-boosting win over Atletico Madrid — their overall form remains a major concern.
Incredibly, Tottenham are still the only side yet to register a league win this calendar year, and with West Ham and Nottingham Forest both improving, the threat of relegation is becoming increasingly real.
Amid that uncertainty, attention is also beginning to turn toward the futures of key players — and one of the club’s biggest stars has now cast fresh doubt over his own situation.
Romero Drops Huge Exit Hint
Cristian Romero has refused to rule out a potential departure from Tottenham this summer, while insisting his immediate focus remains on helping the club avoid relegation.
The Argentine defender has recently been linked with a move away from north London, particularly after Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone publicly praised him earlier this week. When asked about his future following a recent match, Romero stopped short of committing himself to the club beyond this season.
“The truth is that I’m focused on the situation we’re in,” Romero said. “I have a lot of respect and affection for the club and I want to finish the season in the best way possible. We’ll see later but the most important thing now is to recover energy to help Spurs.”
While the comments underline his professionalism in the short term, the phrase “we’ll see later” has only fuelled speculation that he could be considering his options once the campaign ends.
Romero — often described by Spurs supporters as a “monster” — has been a key figure since arriving at the club and played a major role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph. Despite his aggressive style, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top central defenders during his time in England.
Tottenham’s immediate priority remains survival, but Romero’s comments suggest a crucial summer could lie ahead for the club. If Spurs fail to retain their Premier League status — or even if uncertainty continues — keeping hold of their captain may prove difficult, especially with interest growing from top European sides.
