The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping Mauricio Pochettino will bolster his midfield options this summer, and recent reports suggest that he is lining up a bid for a relatively unknown deep-lying midfielder.
Tottenham once again failed to win a major trophy last season despite threatening to challenge for honours across multiple competitions.
The supporters have attributed a portion of the blame to the fact their club were playing their home fixtures at Wembley Stadium, and they believe the move into the new stadium could represent a decisive and final step towards Pochettino’s first trophy.
However, with doubts looming over the future of one of the club’s most instrumental figures, namely Mousa Dembele, the supporters have genuine reason to fear another season of disappointment could be on the horizon.
With Dembele’s future in doubt and Victor Wanyama also being linked with a move away from the club, it’s no surprise that Tottenham are interested in making a bid for one of Colombia’s most promising defensive midfielders, namely Wilmar Barrios, according to reports in The Sun.
The Colombian international moved to Argentinian giants Boca Juniors for just £2.34 million in August 2016, and he has impressed since making the switch with his ability to recover possession before using his composure to distribute the ball effectively.
Although it would undoubtedly represent a tough transition for the 24-year-old, it seems the majority of Spurs supporters are mightily impressed by Barrios’ development in South America and, as such, they would be delighted to see him arrive in North-London this summer.
And with Barrios in contention to feature at the World Cup this summer, Daniel Levy might be tempted to secure his signature before rival clubs take note of his ability on the international stage.
Here’s what the Tottenham fans have had to say about Barrios on Twitter…
Damn he’s good

He could be a great addition. I can affirm he is highly appreciated at Boca. We need more South American blood in the team! Poch knows that.
