As well as bringing in Marco Silva this summer to replace Sam Allardyce as manager, Everton have also recruited Marcel Brands as Steve Walsh’s successor for the Director of Football position at the club.
Big things were expected from Walsh on the blue side of Merseyside after he discovered the brilliant N’Golo Kante while at Leicester. However, the English scout was not able to replicate his transfer market success at Everton and has since been replaced by Brands.
Everton are yet to make a signing under the new Brands regime, but that hasn’t stopped supporters from already heaping praise on PSV Eindhoven’s former Director of Football.
Defender Funes Mori has joined La Liga side Villarreal for an undisclosed amount, as reported by Sky Sports. But there is a rumour from Sporx circulating that a fee of up to £17m was agreed between the two clubs for Mori, and Everton fans believe Brands deserves the credit for sanctioning such a deal if true.
With Mori, who is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, having now departed the club, alongside Michael Keane, the ageing pair of Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka remain as Silva’s only options for central defence.
Furthermore, Everton are likely to explore the market for a new centre-back, and Everton supporters will be hoping that Brands can work his transfer magic again.
