Aston Villa continue to plan for next season, the sides victory over West Ham this weekend took them to the magical 40 point barrier and left them in 10th place in the league, seemingly appeasing the sides restless fans.
One of Villas’ first moves this Summer could be to further strengthen his midfield, our friends at tribal football believe Houllier is ready to move for Lyon midfielder Kim Kallstrom when the transfer window reopens.
Kallstrom is now in his 5th season with the French club, and he has been an important part of their side. In fact the midfield partnership that he built with now Villa player Jean Makoun did such a good job, it is no surprise that the Villa boss wants to reunite the players in England.
The Swedish international is best used as a box to box midfielder, however since he is an excellent crosser of a ball he can sometimes play on the left of midfield if required. His top quality passing ability and work rate however make him more effective through the centre, and as history has proven he can form a good partnership with Makoun.
Tribal Football reckon it is a near certainty that the 29 year old will move on this Summer, and say that Aston Villa have been monitoring his form carefully, with a view to opening negotiations with the club at the end of the season.
I personally think he would be a great addition to the Villa side, they could do with a bit of experience in their squad as they have had to use a lot of youngsters this season. It would appear that Bulgarian Stiliyan Petrov will probably move on this Summer, and with Stephen Ireland not a favourite of Gerard Houllier’s they could really do with some more players who can play in the centre of the pitch.
Kallstrom is a fine player and I think he would adapt to the Premier League extremely well, I also think it is a very good idea to form a block in the centre of the midfield with 2 players that know each others games inside out, it could really help the Swede get used to English football quicker. There is no indication of fee, but if press speculation is to be believed there isn’t going to be a shortage of money coming into the club this Summer from players being sold, so I am sure the finances shouldn’t be an issue.
Just a rumour at this stage, but its a rumour that makes sense and they are always an awful lot more likely to come off, so keep your eyes on it, because Villa could be turning out the old Lyon midfield next season!
