Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals in emphatic fashion with a 7-0 victory over Port Vale, a result that offered a much-needed lift after a turbulent run.
Despite that dominant display, it has done little to mask the deeper issues within the squad, with recent defeats to Newcastle, Everton and two heavy losses to PSG exposing clear weaknesses.
Behind the scenes, tensions are beginning to surface — and it now appears one of the club’s biggest stars could be preparing to force an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Enzo ‘Ready’ to Submit Transfer Request
Enzo Fernandez is reportedly prepared to formally request a transfer in an effort to push through a high-profile move away from Chelsea.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been described as “world-class” by manager Liam Rosenior, was absent from the FA Cup win over Port Vale after being handed a two-match suspension. He is also set to miss the upcoming Premier League clash with Manchester City, further intensifying the spotlight on his situation.
Chelsea took disciplinary action against the Argentine after he publicly cast doubt over his long-term future and criticised the club’s decision to part ways with former boss Enzo Maresca. Those comments are understood to have caused frustration behind the scenes.
Reports from Spain, per Goal, now suggest Fernandez is willing to take matters into his own hands by submitting a transfer request, with Real Madrid his preferred destination. The World Cup winner is believed to be growing increasingly frustrated and sees a move to the Spanish giants as the ideal next step in his career.
His agent, Javier Pastore, has also voiced concerns, criticising Chelsea’s handling of the situation and confirming that options will be explored ahead of the summer window.
However, any deal will be far from straightforward. Chelsea are expected to demand a fee in the region of £130 million, a figure that could complicate negotiations even for a club of Real Madrid’s financial power.
Fernandez’s potential departure would represent a major statement from Chelsea, given his status as one of the most expensive signings in their history. While his desire to leave is becoming increasingly clear, whether Real Madrid are willing — or able — to meet Chelsea’s hefty valuation remains the key question heading into what could be one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas.
