Southampton could really do with some fresh faces but having brought no one in during the January transfer window, they are left with the same players to fight relegation once again.
It is going to be a tough ask because again, there are a number of teams hoping to stay in the Premier League alike Southampton.
On paper, they have the ability to once again secure their Premier League status but the Saints need their players to be 100% dedicated and ready for the big challenge that awaits them.
Whether they stay up or not, this summer again, they need a club clear out and to bring players in who want to play.
A very sensible addition would be Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu, a youngster who is desperate to prove he is the real deal.
Ampadu, (who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt) is a player destined to reach the very top in football and with a move to Southampton, that could help massively with the benefit of playing week in, week out.
Having featured four times for Chelsea’s first-team this season, the Blues will be aware that the Welsh international needs time to improve but with the intensity of chasing a position in the top four, it’s arguably not the right time to bring him into the fold.
So therefore, as a Premier League or Championship side, Southampton could persuade the Blues to let Ampadu leave on-loan, so he gets a taste of what it’s like and still playing at a top level.
Southampton are known for how well they nurture talent and Ethan Ampadu could be another glowing example of that, if a loan spell was successful.
