A number of Everton fans have been bemoaning how England used Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their 2-1 win against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.
Calvert-Lewin led the line in the absence of Harry Kane for England’s 3-0 friendly win against Wales last week, with the 23-year-old registering his first goal for the Three Lions with a typically finished header. The forward was rewarded with another start against Belgium with Kane rested due to muscular fatigue.
However, unlike in the match against Wales where England had control of the game and could provide consistent service up to Calvert-Lewin, Gareth Southgate’s side were put on the back foot against Belgium, especially in the first half.
The Everton forward was only able to receive 33 touches of the ball throughout the 66 minutes he was on the field at Wembley, but he still managed to win seven of his nine aerial duels and average a 71% passing accuracy, as per Sofascore.

Calvert-Lewin has averaged 3.3 shots per game for the Toffees in the Premier League so far this campaign, as per Sofascore, and the forward was able to fire away four efforts against Belgium despite not seeing as much of the ball as he might have wanted.
Many Everton fans were keen to point out that the forward was not helped with the lack of service that he was given. One supporter even commented that the 23-year-old’s talents were wasted with England throughout his 66 minutes on the field.
