Everton are eyeing up a move for Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the summer transfer window approaches.
According to a recent report by The Athletic, the Toffees are keen on snapping up the 24-year-old midfielder after his consistency in the middle of the park impressed the Merseyside outfit.
The Saints signed Hojbjerg from Bayern Munich in 2016 for a fee of £12.8m (via BBC Sport). Since his arrival at St Mary’s, the Denmark international has made 129 appearances for the club (via Transfermarkt).

A Twitter post from Everton fan account @ToffeeTVEFC has relayed quotes from Ralph Hasenhuttl about his fear of losing Hojbjerg for free in 12 months (speaking to BBC Radio Solent via Daily Echo).
Many Everton fans have responded to the comments and are eager to see the Blues bid for Hojbjerg’s signature. One Evertonian has replied ‘100%, he’s a leader’. The Dane was given the Southampton armband in 2018 and has also represented his country 33 times on a senior level.

Another fan has commented that they’d take him “in a heartbeat” as Everton look to build on their struggling midfield.

He’s certainly an improvement on Davies, Schneiderlin & Delph. Covers a lot of ground, gets stuck in and can pick a pass. Could complement Gomes quite well. If we’re going to persist with 4-4-2 then we have to get someone energetic who can tackle next to Gomes.

Good player, physical, technical, knows the league and should be cheap enough. ✅
