Everton’s 1-0 loss to what was practically Liverpool’s reserves on Sunday night will be a tough one for Evertonians to take. They will have been hopeful of leaving Anfield with a first win there in two decades, but they were left to regret missed chances in the end. Many of their fans have reacted with embarrassment, as you can imagine.

According to WhoScored, Liverpool had 12 shots to Everton’s 11, had a higher pass success rate of 81 per cent to 72 per cent and had 12 corners compared to the Toffees’ five. It would be easy to forget that Jurgen Klopp had started such an inexperienced side apart from goalkeeper Adrian, Joe Gomes, Divock Origi and James Milner, who went off injured after just eight minutes.
Everton’s official Twitter account posted the news that the full-time whistle had blown and they were out of the FA Cup, and fans didn’t react well. The club kept the post short, writing “missed chances. Missed opportunity” but some fans weren’t in as calm of a mood and showed just how embarrassing the result was through their replies.
