Many Everton fans have reacted to the transfer update coming from Duncan Castles as he revealed on The Transfer Window podcast that the Merseyside club have proposed an offer worth €15 million, which is the equivalent of around £13.5 million, for LOSC Lille ace Zeki Celik.
However, as per the football journalist, the Toffees face a battle with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur to get his signature over the dotted line before the summer transfer window closes.
Indeed, the right-back could well be an upgrade on club captain Seamus Coleman, who at 31 years of age now is perhaps moving into the latter stages of his career, and Jonjoe Kenny, who has returned from a loan spell at German side FC Schalke 04.
Can Celik replace Coleman at Everton?
Yes
No
Celik averaged more tackles, interceptions and key passes in Ligue 1 than Coleman and Kenny did in the Premier League and Bundesliga respectively in the 2019/20 season, according to Whoscored.
At 23 years of age as well, he arguably has a lot of potential, but he has never played in the English top flight and the Blues are perhaps covered in his position already with both Coleman and Kenny already at Goodison Park.
These EFC supporters gave rather mixed reactions to the news on Twitter:
