The Merseysiders are looking to agree on an 18-month loan agreement, which could include the option to buy at the end of the term, with a £34m price tag on his head.

The Athletic revealed that the Toffees have stolen a match on their rivals in pursuit of the Portugal U21 international, who has struggled for regular first-team football at Benfica.
