Loads of Everton fans have slammed a view from Leighton Baines on Tom Davies as comments from an interview that was shared on the Merseyside club’s official website were tweeted on the Toffees’ Twitter page.
One remark that Baines made on his teammate was:
“He takes so much responsibility. He’ll always take the ball in difficult situations. He’s brave in that sense. He’s got a strong character.”
Whilst the 35-year old praises Davies in several ways, it is arguable that he does not touch on his actual ability.
The central midfielder has scored just two goals in 23 games in all competitions so far this season, and whilst this has been his primary position, Davies has played slightly higher up too, according to Transfermarkt.

For a player that drifts in midfield, perhaps the 21-year old should be contributing more to the attack in terms of goals and assists.
The fact that Baines has hailed him, given that he is arguably a legend at Goodison Park already with 417 appearances across 13 consecutive campaigns (as per Transfermarkt), suggests that Davies’ colleagues, who see him every day in training, believe he has talent. However, supporters perhaps haven’t seen the same levels from him on a matchday yet, which perhaps explains their negative reaction to the left-back’s comments.

These EFC supporters in particular slammed the Englishman after reading Baines’ comments:
