Everton fans have been sticking up for director of football Marcel Brands after he came under criticism at the club’s AGM on Tuesday.
The club official was re-elected to the Toffees’ Board of Directors despite being challenged by Professor Tom Cannon, a shareholder and controversial voice, as per Toffeeweb. Cannon, Emeritus at the University of Liverpool Management School, opened proceedings by protesting against Brands’ involvement in the board room and said that he and his predecessor Steve Walsh had been an “unmitigated failure“.
Despite his plea, Brands was unanimously reinstated as a Blues’ board member as Cannon stood alone with his protests as the only vote against. He went on to highlight the figures from Everton’s recent transfer activity, that signified 70 deals had taken place in 19 months which was an unsustainable number. Supporters rallied around Brands and made their feelings towards Cannon on social media.

Tom Cannon is a dinosaur and needs to step down and replaced with someone that will support and drive the club forward and upwards.

The fella who strongly argued it was ‘Kirkby or relegation’ is off calling out other people’s decision-making. Tremendous stuff.
