Everton journalist Chris Smith has now revealed some under-the-radar transfer news involving Borussia Monchengladbach striker Alassane Plea.

The Lowdown: Plea interest

Reports of the Goodison Park outfit's interest in Plea started emerging last week, as they look to strengthen their forward line following the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur.

They have also been linked with a much more high profile move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja, but may be put off by his £50m price tag.

The Latest: Plea update

After posting the news on Broja on Twitter, Smith then replied to a Toffees supporter in the comments section with some news that has gone under the radar due to its place in the thread:

"They've definitely looked at him. Unsure if it's gone any further than that though. Would be a decent signing IMO."

The Verdict: Cheap alternative

If the Merseyside club do not want to go as high as £50m for Broja, then Plea would certainly provide a cheaper alternative.

He is reportedly available for just £6.8m, which is very cheap in today's market for the player that they would be getting.

The Frenchman managed an impressive ten goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season (Transfermarkt).

At 29 years of age, Frank Lampard's team would be getting a player in his prime for a nominal transfer fee, so this could be a very smart piece of business.
