Sean Dyche has reportedly overtaken Marcelo Bielsa as favourite to become the next Everton manager.

The Lowdown: Bielsa first choice

It has been widely reported that Bielsa is Farhad Moshiri's number one choice to become the next manager at Goodison Park, following the dismissal of Frank Lampard.

However, the former Leeds United boss has had reservations about taking over on Merseyside, as he claims that the team is too slow to play the style of football that he wants to play.

Nonetheless, talks have continued with Bielsa in London today, but Dyche is thought to be waiting in the wings as well.

The Latest: Dyche favourite

According to The Daily Mirror, Dyche has now emerged as the favourite to become the next Everton boss, overtaking Bielsa in the process.

He is also having meetings with the board today about the job, and the Mirror add that Dyche is a 'big admirer' of the Toffees.

The Verdict: No-brainer

Given that the Merseysiders are involved in a relegation battle, it is a no-brainer to bring Dyche in at least until the end of the season.

Lauded as a ‘miracle worker‘ by Burnley journalist Andy Jones, and a 'brilliant' manager who did a 'remarkable' job at Burnley by pundit Chris Sutton, the Englishman kept the Clarets in the Premier League for five straight seasons, including an impressive seventh-place finish in the 2017/18 campaign, while he also won promotion with them twice while they were in the Championship (Transfermarkt).

This was all with Dyche operating on a minuscule budget compared to his Premier League opponents, as Burnley recorded a net spend of just £74m when in the top flight by the end of the 2020/21 season, ranking 29th out of teams to have played in the division.

The Blues have had problems with Financial Fair Play (FFP) as recently as last year, and so Dyche could work miracles with a small budget again, and if given the job, should give supporters confidence that they can stay up.
