Darren Bent has been lauding James Rodriguez, even though the Everton star has been ruled out of their Premier League game aganist Newcastle United.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker was full of praise over the impact that the Colombia international has had on the Goodison Park faithful since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window:
“He needs a little bit of time because he did come straight in and hadn’t had much game time before that, but that’s testament to himself.
“He got himself in there, got himself in good shape and is playing at an extremely high level. A testament to himself, well played.
“He will be missed but maybe this bit of rest will help him, let him regather his legs a little bit. He’s been absolutely superb, he’s another one I questioned and thought how will he impact this Everton squad.
“To be fair to him, he’s been absolutely superb, arguably one of the best players in the league in his first few games. Well played to him.”
Rodriguez has been ‘absolutely superb’
Indeed, Rodriguez has been nothing short of ‘absolutely superb’ so far for the Merseyside club, as Bent has claimed.
Will Rodriguez be a success at Everton?
The attacking midfield player has scored three goals and made a further four assists in seven matches over all competitions for Carlo Ancelotti’s team (Transfermarkt).
He has certainly caught the eye of many in the footballing world, including former Celtic and West Ham United forward Frank McAvennie, who has labelled him as ‘unbelievable’.
Will Rodriguez be missed v Newcastle?
Indeed, there is a question mark as to just how much Rodriguez will be missed by the Toffees for their trip to St’ James’ Park, given that the 29-year old has been ruled out of the match, along with fellow teammate Seamus Coleman.
However, his absence will give an opportunity to one of the likes of Alex Iwobi, Anthony Gordon, Bernard or Gylfi Sigurdsson to step up to the plate in place.
It could likely be a tricky test away from home but The Blues, even without Rodriguez, will be more than capable of getting all three points, thus cementing themselves at the top of England’s highest division.
