Everton: Christopher Beesley shares Richarlison fears

Everton: Christopher Beesley shares Richarlison fears -Everton News

Everton journalist Christopher Beesley is fretting over the prospect of Richarlison joining Tottenham Hotspur for just over £50m.

The lowdown

According to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte (via Metro) Spurs are closing in on a £51m deal for the Toffees forward. Richarlison has apparently made it clear to the Goodison Park hierarchy that he wants to leave, and the club are said to be ‘sympathetic’ to his stance.

Everton paid an initial £35m to sign him from Watford in 2018, but the full package (including add-ons) was worth £50m, so the mooted transfer may represent only a small profit for the Blues.

Notably, The Athletic‘s Gregg O’Keeffe and Patrick Boyland have written that Everton are still suffering financially as a result of ‘previous excesses’ in the transfer market.

The latest

Beesley shared his thoughts on the rumoured transfer via Twitter on Saturday evening.

Sharing a corresponding article that he penned for the Liverpool Echo, he tweeted: “If Richarlison left Everton for just £51million, that really would spoil the transfer window”.

The summer transfer window only opened officially last Friday, but Beesley seems worried that that the move would cast a shadow over any trading which takes place at Goodison Park over the next couple of months.

The verdict

Everton fans may justifiably feel that Richarlison’s stock has grown considerably since he moved to Merseyside.

His tally of Premier League goals has climbed to 48, including 10 last season as the 25-year-old made a leading contribution to the Toffees’ successful survival bid, especially in the closing weeks of the campaign when the stakes were at their highest.

Would you rather keep Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison?

He has also racked up 36 caps for Brazil, who are the world’s number-one ranked international team, and bagged 14 goals in the process.

Perhaps what Everton need is for other interested parties to enter the equation – Spurs are the only club to formally express their interest so far – and generate something of a bidding war.

In other news, Paddy Kenny is thrilled by this Everton transfer news.
