Leeds United are reportedly 'planning to push again' for reported Everton target Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Summer target

It was reported that the Goodison Park outfit were among a number of clubs in the race to sign the 23-year-old in the summer, but a deal never materialised.

Leeds and Southampton were also in the race for his signature, but he ended up staying at PSV Eindhoven.

The Latest: Leeds to push again

Taking to Twitter, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Jesse Marsch's side are 'planning to push again' for Everton target Gakpo in January, but there will be 'a lot of competition' for his signature.

The transfer expert stated: "Leeds are planning to push again for Cody Gakpo in January, after crazy change on Deadline Day. He’s the main target… but there will be lot of competition."

The Verdict: Hijack the deal

If the Whites reach an agreement to sign Gakpo in January, then Everton need to do all that they can to try and hijack the deal.

Hailed as an ‘outstanding‘ player by Football Oranje editor Michael Bell, the Netherlands international has two goals for his country in seven senior caps.

He has also started off this season in truly electrifying fashion, scoring seven times and supplying a further six assists in his opening 10 games across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

With a mere four goals scored in their opening six league matches, the Toffees could do with some extra firepower in their attack, especially with the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
