Everton: Fabrizio Romano reveals Idrissa Gueye ‘talks’

Italian football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Everton are now in ‘talks’ to bring Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park.
The Lowdown: Fans favourite
Gueye was certainly a fan favourite during his time on Merseyside, so much so that supporters have even called for his return in the past.
The Senegal international managed a total of 108 appearances across three consecutive seasons for the Toffees, scoring four goals and making five assists (Transfermarkt).
The Latest: Talks held
Taking to Twitter, Romano has revealed that Frank Lampard’s team have now ‘approached’ PSG over potentially re-signing Gueye, and ‘talks’ are set to continue with the Ligue 1 side ‘in the next days’:
“Everton have approached Paris Saint-Germain for Gana Gueye. He’s one of the names in the list but talks are still at early stages, discussions will continue in the next days.
“PSG want to sell Gueye as soon as possible.”
The Verdict: Bring him home!
Gueye may be 32 years of age now, but he can still do a job for this Blues team.
Once hailed as a ‘monster’ by Tim Sherwood when he was managing him at Aston Villa, the defensive midfielder boasts the experience of playing in the Premier League with two different clubs, and his knowledge will certainly be helpful in being passed on to the rest of the squad.
He averaged 2.3 tackles per game in Ligue 1 last season, only bettered by three EFC players in the top flight, while he also averaged more passes at a higher success rate than any Toffee to make five or more appearances.
Nonetheless, Gueye would be a signing that would help get the supporters onside for next term and more importantly improve the quality in Lampard’s midfield.
