Everton: Toffees have made 'verbal offer' for Kamaldeen Sulemana - Everton News

Everton have reportedly made a ‘verbal offer’ to try and sign Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The Lowdown: ‘Inroads’ made for Sulemana

It was reported earlier this week that the Toffees have made ‘inroads’ to try and strike a deal with Rennes for the Ghanaian forward.

However, they have recently submitted a bid worth £45m including add-ons to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, so it will be interesting to see if they pursue both deals so late on in the January transfer window.

The Latest: Everton make ‘verbal offer’ for Sulemana

Taking to Twitter in sharing a corresponding article for The Athletic, David Ornstein says that Everton made a ‘verbal offer’ on Sunday for Sulemana, using some of the money that they reaped from the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United, in a prospective €30m (£26.4m) deal for the wantaway Rennes forward.

Ornstein tweeted: “Everton made verbal offer on Sunday for permanent signing of Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. Would see #EFC reinvest some Gordon proceeds in direct replacement. #StadeRennais seeking ~€30m for 20yo who wants to go. #SaintsFC still keen.”

The Verdict: Sulemana over Gallagher

Sulemana has to be the priority for Everton over Gallagher, as they have just lost Gordon and are already have plenty of central midfielders in the squad.

Hailed as a ‘beast‘ in one-on-one situations by Ghanaian football writer Emmanuel Ayamga, the Rennes maestro impressively ranks in the 98th percentile for dribbles completed per match among positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues over the past 12 months. He also excels in the defensive side of his game, sitting in the 98th percentile for interceptions and 91st for tackles per match (FBref).

Sulemana has even been lauded by current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag as a player who is ‘technically skilled’ and possesses ‘a lot of speed’ (Football Ghana), so he appears to have all of the requisite attributes to give defenders nightmares in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, if Everton can only sign one of him or Gallagher, then the 20-year-old Ghanaian must be top of their list.
