Everton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that Roberto Martinez can successfully raid West Ham United for midfielder Mohamed Diame.
Metro understands that Martinez is interested in the Hammers star who has also been linked with Liverpool in past transfer windows.
Diame worked under Martinez whilst at Wigan Athletic so knows exactly what the Senegalese midfielder can bring to his Toffees side.
On his day the midfielder is one of the best in the league but he’s never fully convinced for the Hammers and only has a year to run on his current deal.
Sam Allardyce was expected to offer the midfielder a new deal but that is yet to come to fruition with the manager under further scrutiny himself.
Reports suggest that a £3.5 million offer could be enough to unlock a clause in his contract and it’s believed that Diame would find it hard to turn down the thrill of European football.
Everton are going to need to enhance their squad if they are to juggle both a top class domestic season and a European run next campaign.
In recent years sides like Everton have failed to juggle both competitions with the extra fixture backlog taking its toll on smaller sides.
