Everton: Journalist makes Jordan Pickford contract claim

Journalist Paul Brown has made a claim on a new Everton contract for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. 

The Lowdown: 2024

Pickford is now into his sixth season on Merseyside with the Toffees but is currently away with England at the World Cup in Qatar, where he has remained as Gareth Southgate’s number one.

His current contract at Goodison Park is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and it has been reported that the shot-stopper is being tracked by Chelsea ahead of a possible move.

If Pickford, currently on £110,000-a-week, is to renew with Premier League strugglers Everton, though, it will come as a big boost for Frank Lampard’s side.

The Latest: Brown’s comments

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown believes the goalkeeper’s representatives may feel it is time for fresh terms and that his international displays may help push through a new contract following interest elsewhere.

“I suspect some of the interest now is because it may be that his representatives think it’s time for a new contract. And this is a way to help that bargaining process.”

The Verdict: Stay or go?

Whilst Brown’s conclusion may well be accurate, it is important to note that the England number one, called ‘outstanding’ by Toffees legend Leon Osman, is yet to win silverware at senior level.

At the age of 28, he could be pondering on the thought of taking the leap away from Goodison, which would of course render this act of drumming up interest viable for securing his next move.

Depending on his ambitions in the game, Pickford could have a big decision to make, with Everton’s position as relegation battlers possibly playing a part.
