The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are over the moon this morning after reading a story by Phil Hay in the Yorkshire Evening Post that claims Spanish creator, Pablo Hernandez, is poised to sign a two-year contract extension with the club. The Spaniard has been one of the club’s consistent performers throughout an inconsistent season that’s seen them drop as low as 14th in the table.

Hernandez has been one of Leeds’ most influential players this season. The versatile winger has chipped in with seven goals and nine assists in a campaign that quickly fell off the rails in January. The Whites came out of the festive period with high hopes that this year could just be their year, although they’ve won just three games since the New Years Eve and now sit 12th. To make matters worse, Thomas Christiansen was sacked in February following a 4-1 defeat to Cardiff, leading to Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom being appointed.
Unfortunately for the Elland Road faithful, their club’s fortunes didn’t change with Heckingbottom’s appointment. The former Barnsley man has taken charge of 14 Championship games and picked up a measly 13 points out of the 42 available to him so far. Although with Hernandez tied down for two more years and the transfer window on the horizon, the fans will be keen to see who their gaffer looks to bring in as they keep their fingers crossed for promotion back to the Premier League next season.
With that in mind, here’ what the local Whites have been saying about Hernandez’s contract situation:

"Listen Pablo, you're going Burma with the rest of the lads, flights have been booked, it's all sorted. Now whether you come BACK from Burma is totally up to you. Would you like to borrow my pen?"

To have this confirmed would be fantastic news coming from the club. A great player hopefully secured. But also presumably a sign that Pablo is confident about the club’s ambition this summer #lufc #Mot #alaw
