The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted over the weekend, owing to their side’s 5-1 win against Stoke City. The Lilywhites have struggled in the Premier League over the last few weeks, succumbing to a few dropped points along the way, but they firmly put that form behind them at the weekend.
It was an entirely improved performance from the Lilywhites. From front to back, from Kane to Lloris, there was a sense of growth – at least according to our resident Tottenham fans – and that will have impressed Mauricio Pochettino.
That being said, and despite the dominant victory, it’s clear that they aren’t yet at their best, with a few players not yet at 100%. One such man is Dele Alli. The Englishman did well over the weekend, but he’s not terrifying defences like he used to, and so it might be time to give him a night off on Wednesday.
Spurs are set to take on Brighton on Wednesday, and that could be the perfect chance for him to be replaced by one of Pochettino’s other attacking options.
With that said, Pochettino should replace Dele Alli with 1 of these 2 Tottenham players against Brighton – agreed?
Erik Lamela
Erik Lamela is back from injury, and it’s clear that the Tottenham faithful can’t wait for him to return.
The Argentine winger had been out all year long, but he’s quickly approaching full fitness.
He will offer far more directness than Dele Alli, and he’s already proven that he’s still got it with a quality assist for Harry Kane a few weeks ago.
Mauricio Pochettino has moved to re-introduce him slowly, but his time has certainly come for more of a prominent role.
Fernando Llorente
Fernando Llorente has had a tough year at Tottenham so far, and it’s clear that his role as a lone forward isn’t quite working at the club.
The Spaniard, then, might be more effective when operating alongside Harry Kane, rather than in place of him. If Dele Alli isn’t to play, then, this could be a great chance for Pochettino to trial exactly that.
His big and powerful, and so he would be the perfect deep-lying forward to help hold the ball up and supply Kane.
Nothing else has worked so far, so it’s a risk worth taking.
