It seems Liverpool are already planning for next season with Italian outlet La Repubblica reporting a €70 million raid for Napoli star man Lorenzo Insigne.
Klopp’s side have recently seen their lead at the top of the table cut to three points following two dismal performances against Leicester City and West Ham.
Indeed, the German, who seems to be on a mission to blame anything and everything for his team’s shortcomings, will be secretly noting squad weaknesses and planning which areas of the pitch he’ll need to break the next transfer record to secure his first silverware for the club and Liverpool’s first title in close to 30 years.
Despite his obvious qualities, the interest in winger Lorenzo Insigne doesn’t quite make sense to us. Liverpool already possess two of the most formidable wingers in world football, and certainly one of the best in the league in Salah, so signing the Italian would only serve to force one of their more established players to the bench and disrupt the harmony of the rest of the offensive unit.
Instead, we believe it would be wiser to invest the money elsewhere. For example…
Isco
Despite signing Nabi Keita and Fabinho at the start of the season, Liverpool are once again looking quite light in midfield, and are often left to rely on utility man James Milner and Mr. Bang Average, Jordan Henderson, when the going gets tough. Which is certainly the case at the moment.
There’s no one player in that midfield that screams world class, or any single individual fans can look to when the team need something truly special.
Real Madrid outcast Isco could be that man.
The Spaniard is certainly not short on talent, any fan who’s seen him effortlessly glide around the pitch with the ball stuck to his foot will know that. He’s very capable in front of goal, when given the chance, but at times has occupied a more creative role as a number 10.
With his career taking a bit of a hit under Madrid’s new boss, it could be a great time for Liverpool to take advantage and sure up their starting options.
Ciro Immobile
The Italian forward has already played for Klopp once before at Dortmund and we think a reunification of the pair would make perfect sense.
It was painfully obvious that when Firmino was taken off against West Ham the other night, Liverpool had very few ‘proper’ options available to replace him. And that showed. With basically the last kick of the game Origi doomed his side to a draw, fluffing the best opportunity of the game.
If Klopp wants some real impact off the bench, or even in the starting lineup, he’d be wise to pick up Immobile. Granted, a return of 82 goals in 116 games for Lazio wouldn’t come cheap, but if Liverpool really wanted to establish themselves as consistent winners, then they’ll surely have to part with more cash.
