The Southampton fans are feeling disappointed in the Transfer Tavern following reports that Quincy Promes will not be joining the club this month.
Mauricio Pellegrino has already added Guido Carrillo to his first-team squad this month in a £19 million deal from Monaco, but the Saints faithful had high hopes of securing the signature of another exciting forward for a short while. However, those hopes were dealt a decisive blow earlier today, as Sky Sports revealed that Spartak Moscow are reluctant to allow the Dutch striker to leave this month as they have nobody lined up to replace him.
Since the news broke, speculation has emerged in the British media regarding who the south coast outfit could target as an alternative to Promes. According to The Independent, Southampton are now looking to bring Tottenham Hotspur’s Argentine winger Erik Lamela to the club in a dramatic deadline day deal.
Southampton’s links with Lamela have firmly divided the supporters on Twitter who have starkly contrasting opinions on the merits of a potential deal, however, there are plenty of fans believe the 25-year-old could become a huge asset in their relegation battle this season.
Lamela has struggled to cement his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team since he returned from a year-long lay-off with a hip injury, so the prospect of moving to Southampton may well appeal to the player as well as the supporters.
