David Moyes and Sunderland appear destined for relegation barring another miracle escape, and a season in the Championship is firmly on the horizon for the Black Cats. 

Sunderland have had a miserable season in the main, and but for the goals of Defoe and one or two inspiring performances giving glimmers of hope, bottom of the table would appear where they deserve to end up.

Our landlord has been having some in depth chats with some Mackems over by the pool table this week, and the consensus coming out from those discussions is that Moyes has some underlying problems to sort out if he is to progress the team.

Keep Jermain Defoe

If there is one massively important factor at the Stadium of Light what Moyes needs to sort out, it’s getting Jermain Defoe to remain at the club for next season.

Keeping the England international is not going to be easy, but his goals in the Championship would surely propel the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

If Moyes can pull this one off and keep Defoe, it will be a massive coup for the club.

Clear out the dead wood

Sunderland have for too long been a team consisting of what some people brand as Premier League ‘has beens’. The likes of John O’Shea, Darron Gibson, and Steven Pienaar have all had their best days, and it could be time for them to be shipped out.

A new team of refreshing signings and younger players could breathe new life into the club, and this will surely be something Moyes will be keen to address in the summer transfer window.
