Homegrown: The 1 English player that could take Newcastle to the next level

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see a bit of improvement in their side’s attack this summer. The Magpies were solid last season, but a lack of goals was problematic at points. This summer, then, bringing in a new forward makes sense.

Rafael Benitez could do far worse than to look on home turf to bring in a bit more firepower, as buying abroad – as he has learnt – can be a risk.

Fortunately, there’s a lot of homegrown talent that could give Newcastle’s attack what it needs, and one player that would be perfect is Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.

Newcastle have already made the most of Chelsea’s loan policy over the last year, with Kenedy coming into tremendous effect. Abraham is every bit as good as the Brazilian, and so this could be a perfect match.

For his part, Abraham has emerged as one of England’s best young forwards. He made his name on loan at Bristol City in the Championship, where he took the second tier by storm. A forward with great pace, dribbling, and shooting, he’s exactly who a team needs to lead the line.

What’s more, Abraham does – of course – already have experience in the Premier League. He spent last season on loan with Swansea City, and he showed moments of class. Another year in the English top flight could be just what he needs.

A move for him, then, could make sense for Newcastle first and foremost, but it would also make sense for Chelsea and Abraham himself.
