As if it hadn’t been a long enough season for the Sunderland fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern as they watch their side all but surrender their Premier League status, today has made things a lot worse.
Marooned at the bottom of the table, the Black Cats look as if it’ll be one relegation battle too many this term, despite the fact they are rather well versed in staving off the drop. While there have been many dark days at the Stadium of Light, perhaps today is the day our Wearsiders are at their most weary.
Having sold one of their stay payers, Patrick van Arnholt to relegation rivals Crystal Palace, David Moyes’ reported move to link up with two of his former Everton men in Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo is barely the most inspiring. With the likes of Victor Anichebe and Joleon Lescott already on the books, the ageing and often injured Toffees are seemingly reuniting in the worst reunion since the Happy Mondays.
With all this in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted.
Two more Everton crocks set for Sunderland, Gibson & Oviedo. Beginning think must be insurance jobs, can't think of any other reason #safc

If Moyes gets Osman out of retirement along with signing Gibson and Oviedo for #SAFC, I’m half tempted to go to some of their games…

Gibson has played 17 games in the last 4 year, Oviedo has played 50 games in a similar amount of time. Will we ever learn? #safc #efc

This signing of Everton has beens is just embarrassing now #safc. Gibson will play 2 games and will be out injured again!!!

I'd rather we went down and started from scratch than sign players like Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo #SAFC
