Newcastle United supporters have been relatively downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side go down 1-0 to Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing prior to the current international break.
Rafa Benitez’s men went into their clash with the Cherries off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Burnley in their preceding encounter, and as such would have been seeking home comforts against Eddie Howe’s side. However, the Magpies produced a limp and uninspiring display and were duly punished late on as Steve Cook’s header secured a 1-0 victory for the South Coast outfit, in turn moving them out of the Premier League’s bottom three and instigating Newcastle’s fall to 11th place in the table.
Thus, there have been many unhappy Magpies fans in the Tavern this week, and alongside muted news of a possible takeover, that doom and gloom continues to linger ahead of a pivotal few weeks in their season.
However, recent reports from The Daily Star does provide an update on the potential takeover of the club, with it reported that Amanda Staveley is close to completing a deal for the Magpies, which could well be announced later this week.
And news of potential happenings on the takeover front has stimulated quite a response from Newcastle fans on Twitter, many of whom are remaining firmly grounded until there is official confirmation of the deal…
I won’t believe this takeover news until I see Amanda Staveley in a toon top doing keepie-ups in front of the gallowgate #NUFC

Until Amanda Staveley is holding up the shirt, I’m not getting carried away. @ChronicleNUFC are still stating that no bid has been made. #nufc #nufctakeover
