The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating their side’s performance against Juventus. The Lilywhites were expected to put in a solid showing, but nobody could have guessed the heart, resilience and passion on display from the North London-based outfit.
Things couldn’t have started much worse for them, after they conceded two goals in the first 10 minutes, but a mighty comeback followed. By the time the final whistle blew, Spurs were good value for their 2-2 draw.
Everyone in a white shirt deserves praise for their performance, and they have certainly received that over the last few days.
It’s the least that he deserves, of course, and whilst his display against Juventus wasn’t the catalyst for the decision to give him a new deal, his performance certainly would have given Pochettino added confidence that the Englishman is the man for Spurs.
He hasn’t been at his best this season, but he continually delivers when Tottenham need him to, and that sort of reliance is just what they need.
Not to mention, at just 21-years-old, he’s one of Europe’s best young players, and he’s only going to get better.
Whilst an announcement won’t be coming anytime soon, Spurs are clearly keen to secure his future as soon as possible.
Landlord’s Verdict
Dele Alli is a top player, and whilst he has had his critics this term, he remains key to Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
He’s rated at a whopping £72 million by Transfer Markt, and so if nothing else, a new deal will up his value if a big European powerhouse wants to sign him.
In reality, though, he deserves a new deal – and that’s clearly what Spurs want to give him.
