Southampton saw Cedric Soares head to Inter Milan on loan in the January transfer window.
And, it appears the Serie A giants could be prepared to consider whether to bring the Portugal international to the club on a permanent basis.
According to a report by Calciomercato, the Italians have not ruled out the possibility of concluding a deal, although they will wait until the end of the season to make a decision.
It is understood that the 27-year-old will need to impress Inter Milan with his performances on the pitch for them to consider activating the €11million clause they have in the agreement.
Ralph Hasenhuttl underwent a process of offloading a number of his players from his squad at The St. Mary’s Stadium this winter.
Cedric was not the only player to have gone to play his football in Italy, with Manolo Gabbiadini playing his football at Sampdoria, whilst Wesley Hoedt headed to Spain to join up with Celta de Vigo.
The Verdict:
Despite being a regular under Mark Hughes, Cedric did not appear to be in Hasenhuttl’s plans when he took over.
A permanent transfer to Inter Milan could be on the cards for the 27-year-old, however, the Portugal international must do all he can to convince them he is worth bringing to the club on a full-time basis.
It will certainly be an interesting few months for him and Southampton, who will likely be hoping the Serie A side do exercise their option of purchasing the full-back for €11m.
