There may not have been any club football recently, but plenty of Arsenal players were still in action with Unai Emery’s squad boasting full internationals left, right and centre.
And one man who got minutes under his belt during this round of international fixtures was summer signing Lucas Torreira.
Torreira featured in Uruguay’s defeats to Brazil and France where he impressed, giving Emery an easy decision to make when selecting his Arsenal team for the trip to Bournemouth this Sunday.
After a slow introduction into the Arsenal first-team, Torreira has been a regular over the last few weeks, and things should certainly remain that way if the 22-year-old’s recent performances for Uruguay are anything to go by.
In midfield, Torreira was as energetic and strong as ever with his scything down of Neymar epitomising just exactly what he has brought to Arsenal.
For years now, the Gunners have lacked a real consistent, aggressive ball-winning midfielder in the middle of the park, and it has cost them on plenty of occasions.
However, with Torreira’s arrival from Sampdoria over the summer, it looks like problem solved in that department.
It is, of course, a long season. But the early signs are promising with Torreira’s displays for Uruguay reason for Emery and Arsenal supporters to feel even more encouraged about his signing.
In regards to what lies ahead for Torreira and Arsenal, Bournemouth could prove to be a tricky fixture given how they have performed this season even if things have not gone to plan for Eddie Howe’s men in their last couple of Premier League clashes.
However, Arsenal will be confident going into the match considering the form they are in with Torreira being just one man on the top of his game right now.
All in all, the Uruguay international is proving to be an essential part of Emery’s revolution at the Emirates.
